Iron & Metals (SIM) is the most current state-of-the-art metal
recycler in the United States. SeaCon was retained by SIM to assist
in the relocation negotiations with the Port of Seattle and as the
Construction Manager/General Contractor. The $30 million projects
fast track schedule (6 months) required that ten buildings be
constructed simultaneously on a confined site. Soil conditions
necessitated not only the removal and treatment of over $1 million
in contaminated fill, but also the installation of 1100 stone pile
columns through an in-siteu soil modification process to prevent
structural damage resulting from liquefaction in case of earthquake.
Environmental concerns required that all surface water runoff from
the site be collected and run through a special wastewater treatment
facility that was designed and constructed specifically for the SIM
location. This project required intense project coordination, site
planning, and construction management to meet the extremely short
construction schedule. This project was completed per the schedule
(July 1998) and there were no claims.
